Grizz’s Picks: NFL Thanksgiving + 1 Fantasy Impact Player

Week 12 gives us the all beloved Thanksgiving day games but also gives us a solid weekend of football games after a wild week 11.

  • Minnesota Vikings at. Detroit Lions/11:30 am/Thursday

    • My Pick: Minnesota Vikings
      • Why?: The Lions host the surging Vikings at home and the Lions are coming off a super close game with the Bears. A game that saw the Bears drive all the way down the field behind the arm of Mitch Trubisky, and then relied on the leg of Connor Barth which let them down and lost them the game instead of going to overtime. The Vikings have been smooth and solid with Case Keenum at the helm, even with the return of Teddy Bridgewater, Keenum has held the QB1 spot solidly for the Vikings and they are on a roll right now. The Vikings running back duo has been beyond solid and works as a good 1/2 punch, The Lions also have a 1/2 punch but the duo of Abdullah and Riddick have yet to surpass the 60 yard mark in the last 3 weeks. As always Matthew Stafford has been consistent and Marvin Jones has stepped up as a solid WR for Stafford.
      • Fantasy Pick: McKinnon and Murray (Vikings RB Duo)
        • I pick these two because the Lions gave up double digit fantasy points to not only Jordan Howard (18.5 points in ESPN) but also gave up 15 points to Tarik Cohen who had not scored double digits since Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Another nugget that makes the Vikings backs more interesting, which is the winless Browns running backs both put up double digit points against this vulnerable Lions D.
  • Los Angeles Chargers @ Dallas Cowboys/3:30 pm/Thursday

    • My Pick: Los Angeles Chargers
      • Why?: The Chargers are coming off one of the weirdest situations in the NFL season. The Bills started Nathan Peterman who threw 5 INT’s in route to him being pulled for Tyrod Taylor who was benched for Peterman. The Chargers have played a lot of close games this season (only 3 games have been won/lost by more or less than 10 points) including an overtime thriller vs. the Jaguars where Phillip Rivers threw a pick to end the game. Keenan Allen is coming off his first 2 TD game and only his 3rd 100+ receiving yardage game of 2017. With Allen staying healthy and having a huge game, Allen could have a successful game. As for the Cowboys, they have not been the same with their big man Tyron Smith. It sounds like Smith might make it back to face the Chargers so Dak wont have to be harassed as bad as he did the last 2 games without Smith. And of course without Zeke, this team will have to lean on Dak and Morris/Rod Smith.
      • Fantasy Pick: Keenan Allen-WR-LA Chargers (If T.Smith doesn’t play, Chargers D could be useful as well)
        • Allen seems to be a smart pick coming off his huge game last week and we’ve seen Allen have the capability of having back to back big games. Another reason I see Allen as a huge play in fantasy this week is because the Cowboys have not been good against the pass this year. 2 weeks ago against the Atlanta Falcons 3 players including the TE Austin Hooper had double digits in fantasy points, with Hooper leading the team in fantasy points. The Chargers could be a sneaky play if Smith is out because without Smith, Dak is very vulnerable to be sacked. And Casey Heyward has been one of the best defensive backs in the NFL as of late.
  • New York Giants @ Washington Redskins/7:30 pm/ Thursday

    • My Pick: Washington Redskins
      • Why?: The Giants are not in a good place, ever since losing Odell this team has seemed lost. They however have managed to win 2 games and both wins come against 2 AFC West teams (Chiefs and Broncos). Last weeks win against the Chiefs was a giant question mark because weather was a huge factor and the win against the Broncos, was because the Broncos have been in QB flux the whole year. The Giants have also had QB flux problems with the thought of Davis Webb replacing Eli Manning was once thrown around. But they have found a shining star in the draft in Evan Engram. Now one thing that could hurt/harm the Giants are if Sterling Sheppard could not go due to Migraine issues. The Redskins faced a tough loss in OT last week to the Saints which saw Kirk Cousins get hurt for a few plays but most importantly that same play lost the Redskins main running back in Chris Thompson for possibly the whole year. Cousins and the Redskins have a head of steam into this week in a big divisional game.
      • Fantasy Pick?: Kirk Cousins-QB-Washington Redskins
        • Kirk Cousins got bounced out of the game last week on the same play as Chris Thompson. Cousins is going to want to play this game with a head of steam and with it being a divisional game it makes it even that more important. The last 2 weeks are a good sign for Cousins fantasy wise as he has put up 20+ points in the last 2 weeks after a couple of terrible performances. Cousins is going to have to throw the ball ALOT without Rob Kelley and Chris Thompson. Samaje Perine has been added to the injury report with a finger injury on Monday so this sounds like a game where Cousins will have to throw the ball more than he would like to.
