NHL News 11/28/17: Penguins goaltender Matt Murray out 2-4 weeks with lower-body injury; Kane and Dumba fined $5,000

It was a wild night Monday in the NHL with 2 teams scoring a touchdown (with a PAT) as the Winnipeg Jets scored 7 unanswered goals to defeat the Minnesota Wild 7-2, while the Chicago Blackhawks defeated the Anaheim Ducks by a score of 7-3.

One of the biggest stories of the night was the injury of Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Matt Murray. Murray was injured when Flyers forward Jakub Voracek crashed into him following a breakaway with 4:21 remaining in the 2nd period. 

Murray is 11-7-1 with a 2.91 Goals Against Average in 21 games this season.

Penguins Mike Sullivan said the following about the injury: “Injuries are a part of the game, Matt’s a young guy. He’s only going to get stronger and he’s going to get more durable with each game that he plays.”

Murray is listed as week to week.

Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane, and Minnesota Wild defenseman Matt Dumba were fined $5,000 for their actions Monday night.

Patrick Kane was fined $5,000 for slashing Anheim Ducks forward Nick Ritchie at 15:47 of the third period. 

Matt Dumba was fined $5,000 for unsportsmanlike conduct. The incident occured at the end of the first period, when Dumba squirted water at Jets forward Joel Armia.

Both fines are the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The money from both fines goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
