The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired Short Stop Aledmys Diaz from the St.Louis Cardinals in exchange for minor league OF JB Woodman. Toronto currently has Troy Tulowitzki but with his production declining the last 3 years, this could be his replacement.
Diaz was phenomenal in 2016 as a rookie. He hit .300/17/65 and was a National League all-star. Last year on the other hand, was not quite as great as he hit to the tune of a .259/7/20. Diaz was also DFA’d and sent down to Tiple-A Memphis as a consequence for his struggles.
JB Woodman played in 96 games last year at Signle-A Lansing and hit .240/7/45. The Cardinals now have a new young star at SS in Paul DeJong. His stellar play last year pushed Diaz out of a staring job.
If Aledmys can return to his 2016 form, he’ll fit in rather nicely to a lineup that already has the likes of Jose Bautista, Josh Donaldson, and Justin Smoak.
