The streak ends at 14. The Houston Rockets were looking for their 15th straight victory tonight as the visiting Los Angeles Lakers came into town. The Lakers jumped out to an early 37-22 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Rockets closed the gap to only four points at halftime. The Lakers secured a five-point lead at the end of the third, and finished the game beating the Rockets by six points.
The stars of the night were Kyle Kuzma for the Lakers and James Harden for the Rockets. At the half, Kuzma tallied up 24 points on a perfect 9/9 from the field, six of those coming from beyond the arc. Harden had an incredible first half as well racking up 30 points. Kuzma finished the game with 38 points on 12/17 shooting while Harden finished with a game high 51 points to go along with nine assists.
The Rockets loss tonight ends their impressive 14 game winning streak which has put them a game ahead of the Warriors for the number one spot in the Western Conference. As noteworthy as this win streak has been for the Rockets, I still have my doubts. Only one of those victories came against a top six team in the NBA in terms of record, which was the San Antonio Spurs. The Rockets play on the road against the Thunder on Christmas Day and three days later in Boston. Those back to back road games will be a good test to see how the Rockets fair in high pressure primetime matchups.
