2018 IIHF World Junior’s Day 3: USA upset by Slovakia

The first major upset in the tournament happened today as Slovakia shocked the U.S. with a 3-2 victory. Sam Bucek led the way for Slovakia with 2 assists and the game winning goal. 

Down 2-1 with 4 minutes to go, Casey Mittelstadt scored the goal of the tournament so far with an absolute beautiful between the legs move and finish. However, just 1 minute later Sam Bucek put in a rebound to win the game for the Slovak’s.

Goaltender Roman Durny was the difference maker for Slovakia. Durny made 43 saves on 45 shots to earn the win. 

The U.S has the opportunity early tomroow morning to bounce back as they play Canada in the World Junior’s first ever outdoor game at New Era Field in Buffalo.
